Health and Physical Education Mr. Vincent Fadale ([email protected]) Physical Education What we’ve been doing? K-2 students have started doing parachute activities. This activity is great for building upper body strength and working on cooperating with other students. 3-5 students have started their volleyball unit this week. We practiced all necessary skills this week to prepare for gameplay next week. 6-8th grade students began gameplay this week. What we are going to do? K-2 students will continue parachute activities when they return from break. 3-8th grade students will continue their volleyball unit when they return from winter break. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade students will continue working on their poster with their partner. 7-8th grade students will continue an individual project. The student will play the role of a nutritionist and help his/her client reach his/her weight goal through healthy eating. What we are going to do? 6th grade students will continue working on their organ system poster with their partner. 7-8th grade students will continue their nutritionist project.

Health and Physical Education Mr. Vincent Fadale ([email protected]) Physical Education What we’ve been doing? K-5 students have played a game this week called “Over The Net.” This activity gives students the opportunity to practice throwing and catching skills. Strategy is an important element of this game. Being able to throw in an open space can make it more difficult for opponents to catch the dodgeballs. 6-8th grade students have finished up skill work and will begin gameplay this week. What we are going to do? K-2 students will start throwing games when they return from break. 3-5 students will start their volleyball unit. 6-8th grade students will continue their volleyball unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade students will continue working on their poster with their partner. 7-8th grade students will begin an individual project. The student will play the role of a nutritionist and help his/her client reach his/her weight goal through healthy eating. K-2 students have continued dodging/fleeing games and are practicing locomotor movements. Locomotor movements include skipping, jumping, hopping, sliding, galloping, and running. Locomotor movements help younger students develop and refine coordination. The tag game we played this week was called “zombie tag”. 3-5 students have started throwing games. The game we played this week was called “hula huts.” This game helps students improve throwing accuracy, reaction time, and teamwork. 6-8th grade students have started their volleyball unit. What we are going to do? K-2 students will start throwing games when they return from break. 3-8 students will start their volleyball unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade students will continue working on their poster with their partner. 7-8th grade students will reflect on a unit from PE class. Students will write about strengths/weaknesses and how they could improve themselves to be a better athlete/teammate. Students will also reflect on how the activity is good for his or her personal health. The game we played this week was called the helicopter tag. 3-5 students have continued capture the flag. This game is great for increasing cardiovascular endurance, working on teamwork, and discussing different strategies. In 6-8th grade students have finished their football unit. Students will write a reflection on one of the units from the trimester. What we are going to do? K-5 students will start throwing games when they return from break. 6-8 students will start their volleyball unit when they return from break. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? All students took test on information that they learned from this trimester. What we are going to do? Will reflect on a unit from PE class. Students will write about strengths/weaknesses and how they could improve themselves to be a better athlete/teammate. The game we played this week were called “skunk tag” and “What time is it Mr. Wolf.” 3-5 students have continued our track and field. We worked on throwing this week for track and field. In 6-8th grade students have continued their football unit. Students learned strategies to play flag football. What we are going to do? K-2 students will be continuing dodging and fleeing games. 3-5 students will play capture the flag. 6-8 students will continue their football unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade started creating posters of all the major body systems. 7-8th grade learned about the digestive system and how it absorbs nutrients and eliminates waste products. The game we played this week was called “Ollie Ollie Octopus.” 3-5 students have continued our track and field and kickball unit. We worked on middle distance and relays this week for track and field. In kickball we expanded upon rules and strategies in our gameplay. 6-8th grade students have continued their football unit. Students learned how to snap and play flag football. What we are going to do? K-2 students will be continuing dodging and fleeing games. 3-5 students will continue their track and field/kickball unit. 6-8 students will continue their football unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade learned about homeostasis and how it keeps our body balanced. 7-8th grade learned about the digestive system and how it breaks down nutrients to provide our body with energy. What we are going to do? 6th grade students will begin to create posters on an organ system with a partner. 7-8th grade students learned how final digestion, absorption, and elimination works in the digestive system. Health and Physical Education Mr. Vincent Fadale ([email protected]) Physical Education What we’ve been doing? K-2 students have continued dodging and fleeing games. The games we played this week were called “Water, Fire, and Trees” and “Crows and Cranes.” 3-5 students have continued our track and field and kickball unit. We worked on hurdling and jumping this week for track and field. In kickball we expanded upon rules and strategies in our gameplay. 6-8th grade students have continued their football unit. Students learned how to properly carry a football. Students then did an activity which utilized running with the football and throwing for accuracy. Students also played Ultimate Football. The rules are the same as ultimate frisbee, but a football is used. This forces students to work together, move to get open, defend receivers/passes, pass, and catch the football. What we are going to do? K-2 students will be continuing dodging and fleeing games. 3-5 students will continue their track and field/kickball unit. 6-8 students will continue their football unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? We did not meet due to the shortened week. What we are going to do? 6th grade learned about homeostasis and how it keeps our body balanced. 7-8th grade is learning about the digestive system and how it breaks down nutrients to provide our body with energy. The games we played this week were called “Builders and Bulldozers” and “Steal the Bacon.” 1st and 2nd graders also incorporated some basic math and spanish into steal the bacon. 3-5 students have started our track and field and kickball unit. We worked on sprinting this week and learned the rules to kickball. 6-8th grade students have started their football unit. Students learned how to pass and catch a football. After learning how to pass and catch, students were able to use those skills in our capture the flag game. What we are going to do? K-2 students will be continuing dodging and fleeing games. 3-5 students will continue their track and field/kickball unit. 6-8 will continue their football unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade students learned how the nervous and endocrine systems control body function. 7th and 8th grade brought in nutrition labels from home and worked as a group to rank them from healthiest to least healthiest. Health and Physical Education Mr. Vincent Fadale ([email protected]) Physical Education What we’ve been doing? Students have concluded gameplay in soccer this week in grades 3-8. K-2 students have started playing dodging and fleeing games. This helps develop spatial awareness and cardiovascular endurance. Our games this week were “sharks and minnows” and “treasure island.” What we are going to do? K-2 students will be continuing dodging and fleeing games. 3-5 students will start a track and kickball unit. 6-8 will take a quiz in soccer and start our football unit. Health (Middle School) What we’ve been doing? 6th grade students have learned about how our bodies transport and excrete essential materials such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients. 7th and 8th grade did not meet last week due to Practice PSSA Testing. What we are going to do? 6th grade students will learn how the nervous and endocrine systems interact to control body function. 7th and 8th grade students will bring in their own food labels and due a group activity. |
